Case Description
I am a sufferer of TMJ. I was also told at the age of 10 that my lower was not properly aligned. What began as a light popping when eating very crunchy or chewy items has now escalated to several dislocations and severe pain, regardless of the food texture! My wisdom teeth are of normal size, yet they are unable to errupt. I can feel them pressing against, what I can only assume is, my jaw. I'm not sure where to start on my path to healing.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

I am sorry to hear of your discomfort. TMD can be frustrating and very painful. Many times even treatment can''''t resolve 100% of the pain, but can make a remarkable difference. First, the etiology of the pain needs to be determined. It can be cause by many factors or even combinations of factors. Is it soft tissue or hard tissue or a combination of both? Is it related to tooth postion or skeletal jaw position? My recommendation is to find a reputable oral surgeon who specifically deals with TMD and can diagnose the cause of your discomfort and treat from there. This is a great place to start and if there is some restorative need, then you can work in conjuction with your dentist.Good Luck and Best Wishes,Jason R Gillespie, DDS,MSProsthodontist
